Julius Meinl

About us

Internationally acclaimed coffee roasters Julius Meinl has been at the forefront of Viennese café culture for almost 160 years.

Built upon five generations of traditional values guided by a vision to make the world a more poetic place, the company is dedicated to innovation, sustainability and quality products.

Established in 1862, it was the first retailer to offer freshly roasted coffee, amongst other gourmet foods and grocery goods, something that has inspired its eponymous Premium concept – a unique blend created with UTZ sustainability certification, consisting of 100% Highland Arabica beans from the very best coffee growing areas of Brazil and East Africa.

To create, the beans are gently roasted to a medium-dark level to allow the aromas and rich taste to stay preserved for a unique flavour profile. The sweetness of this luxury coffee blend results in a delicate and chocolaty taste.

Designed for hotels, restaurants and cafés, the concept also includes a contemporary 1862 espresso cup created in collaboration with renowned Italian designer Matteo Thun. An elegant matte black cup with unfinished golden brushstrokes adorned with the brand’s famous logo, it is inspired by Viennese café culture and Julius Meinl’s 1862 recipe.

Combining traditional and modern design, the 1862 experience is completed by innovative Aroma Fez packaging, which boasts three individual chambers that can be opened individually to ensure the same exquisite taste with every serving.

More than a

Julius Meinl heritage

Five generations

Julius Meinl’s family business is rooted in a deep passion for great coffee, handed down for five generations.

But for many coffee farmers in Colombia, staying in business is getting harder and harder. Julius Meinl helps farmers enhance their business with trainings, assistance and coffee drying technology. This way we ensure that Colombian coffee heritage is passed from generation to generation.

We provide farmers with individual trainings and technical support in order to help them increase production efficiency for a healthier and more sustainable business growth.

We help farmers to get UTZ certification in the first year and to renew it in subsequent years. This enables them to sell their coffee at better market prices.

Dryers help farmers to sell their coffee at higher prices. Today they cannot afford the equipment. We provided, installed and maintained 25 drying facilities.

We want to make the world a better place

Small but meaningful steps

Sustainability is more than just a word for us. We live it, believe it, think it and are convinced it is the only way forward in the future. We strongly believe that today’s welfare and high standard of living must still leave the world as beautiful and as diverse for future generations.

We want our children to see the world, its different peoples, animals and nature in all its beauty and diversity. Let us all help to make this possible. We at Julius Meinl committed ourselves to make it happen.
